There, the totalitarian state has used the pandemic to heighten repression against free speech, journalism and the arts, against civil society organizations and public meetings, against freedom of religion and belief. Hundreds of impoverished Cuban people have been fined for not wearing a mask, while being forced to wait hours in line for their daily bread, and soap if they're lucky.
