NEWS ALERT: Bipartisan Bill Re-Introduced in US Senate to Combat Human Trafficking of Cuban Doctors6/18/2021
On June 17, 2021, U.S. Senators Bob Menendez (D-NY) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) re-introduced legislation to strengthen accountability measures regarding the Cuban regime’s exploitation of Cuban doctors and other medical professionals.
The “Combatting Trafficking of Cuban Doctors Act of 2021” would require new reporting on forced labor conditions imposed on Cuban doctors in countries worldwide. Additionally, the bipartisan bill would re-establish the Cuban Medical Professional Parole Program that would permit eligible Cuban medical professionals and their immediate families to come to the United States.
“The legislation sends a strong and needed message that the American people will support the fundamental rights of individuals exploited by the Cuban regime. For more than a year the Global Liberty Alliance has been uncovering the unlawful contracts connected to Cuban medical brigades in Brazil, Uruguay, Guatemala, and other nations that will be used in ongoing accountability efforts,” said GLA President Jason Poblete.
