“The task force is so important for us as former hostages because the pain that is inflicted on us while we are hostages, a lot of it comes from the outside, and having such a task force for families to go to, to discuss, to know what to do, its so important.”

On Thursday, June 17, Representative Ted Deutch (FL-22) and Representative French Hill (AR-02) held a bipartisan press conference to announce the formation of the Congressional Task Force on American Hostages and Americans Wrongfully Detained Abroad.
“As the representatives of the people and, for some, the hometowns of our fellow Americans held hostage by pariah states or terrorist groups, Members of Congress have a critical role to play in defending and advocating for their safety and freedom,” said GLA President, and 2020 James W. Foley Freedom Awards American Hostage Freedom Awardee Jason Poblete. On behalf of Alina Lopez, still unlawfully imprisoned in Cuba, and Jamshid Sharmahd from California, unlawfully imprisoned in Iran, I wish to thank Congressman Deutch, Congressman Hill and their staffs for their commitment and for creating this new Caucus, sending a clear message to their captors: we will never forget; we will not rest until we bring our constituents, our fellow Americans home and hold the perpetrators to account.
