On August 11, 2021, spokesperson for the Association of Free Yorubas of Cuba, Ms. Yaimara Reyes Soler, recorded the following message of support for fellow members Donaida Perez Paseiro, Loreto Hernandez Garcia, and twin sisters Lisdiany and Lisdany Rodriguez Isak (aka Lisdiani & Lisdani Rodriguez Isaac), all of which are currently imprisoned in Santa Clara, Cuba following nation-wide protests on July 11.
Ms. Reyes, on behalf of the Free Yorubas Association, reaffirms support to those who were kidnapped by political police, and goes on to demand their immediate and unconditional release, noting they were simply expressing their right to expression and peaceful demonstration. SEE BELOW:
Yoruba President Donaida Perez Paseiro has been in police custody since July 16, and will be held in Guamajal prison in Santa Clara as a precautionary measure until a trial is held.
Her husband, Loreto Hernandez Garcia, who also serves as Vice President of the Free Yorubas, was arrested on July 15. He was most recently moved to La Pendiente prison in Santa Clara on August 4, following an urgent medical assessment by prison doctors after experiencing life-threatening health complications exacerbated by poor prison conditions. Twin sisters Lisdiany and Lisdany Rodriguez Isak were picked up by Cuban authorities on July 19, and are being held in Guamajal prison in Santa Clara until a trial is held.
